If the position does not meet the requirements for an Enhanced DBS Check, it may be eligible for a Standard DBS Check.
This checks for:
- spent and unspent convictions
- cautions
- reprimands and final warnings
To be eligible for a standard level DBS check the position must be included in the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975.
It's important to have the right check done as it’s illegal for employers to employ someone, or allow them to volunteer, if they know they’re on one of the barred lists.
Cost
The DBS charges the following fees:
- Standard DBS check - £18
- DBS checks for volunteers are free of charge although the handling fee still applies
