What does an Enhanced DBS check include?
This includes all of the standard checks:
- spent and unspent convictions
- cautions
- reprimands
- final warnings
It also includes information held by local police that could be considered relevant to the role being applied for.
To be eligible for an enhanced level DBS check, the position must be included in both the The Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 and in Police Act Regulations.
We've created a simple checking tool which will indicate if an enhanced check with barred list may be needed. It's important to have the right check done as it’s illegal for employers to employ someone, or allow them to volunteer, if they know they’re on one of the barred lists.
Cost
The DBS charges the following fees:
- Enhanced DBS check - £38 (with or without a barred list check)
- DBS checks for volunteers are free of charge although the handling fee still applies
